Who may attend?
San Juan Unified School District Adult Education classes are open to all adults, age 18 and older, who can benefit from the programs. All classes are designed to meet the needs of adults.
Registration is required for all classes and early registration is recommended as some classes fill quickly. Registration is on a first-come, first served basis until classes are full. Classes with low enrollment or low attendance may be cancelled. The district reserves the right to discontinue, shorten, postpone or combine classes, and/or change instructors. Classes may be discontinued on or before the first scheduled meeting if fewer than the required number of students enroll.
Stay Connected with current and future classes by logging on to our website.
Community Interest Courses are offered to meet the needs and interest of adult learners in the Greater Sacramento area and are entirely supported by registration fees and receive no state funding. Fees are nominal and cover the cost of the instructor, facility, and related expenses. Registration for community interest courses can be completed online or in person by credit or debit card. Refunds will ONLY be given if the class is cancelled by the district. A minimum enrollment is required for each class and if a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, a full refund will be made. For approved refunds, checks will be mailed through the District Accounting Department only to the registered party or individual who made the payment and may take approximately six weeks for processing. Please select your classes carefully as there are no refunds. If you miss the first class session, you will be dropped and there is no refund. There are no refunds on textbook purchases.
Fees are subject to change. Class fees are based on costs to offer the program. All fees must be paid at the time of registration. Books and supplies are additional, unless otherwise indicated.
State and Federal Subsidized Courses are partially funded by the state of California and the federal government through grants. Students must register for subsidized classes in person at the office. Registration is typically open throughout the school year. There are NO fees for English as a Second Language, High School Subjects, GED preparation and Adult Basic Education classes.
Book Lists are available on each of our campuses. You will need to purchase your books through a local retailer, or through an online source of your preference. We do not offer a book service, nor can we provide any book refund to you if a class/course is cancelled.
All San Juan Adult Education Instructors must have a teaching credential on file with the Sacramento County Office of Education. Teachers must be instructing within the subject areas designated by the California State Teachers’ Credentialing Commission. In addition to the required credential, many of our faculty bring valuable expertise from their involvement in their related field.
Counseling Services are available for adults who wish to enroll in classes leading to an adult high school diploma. The counselor will evaluate transcripts from previous schools and help the student by making recommendations to register in the appropriate classes.
No Smoking on any of our campuses. The SJUSD Board has declared all San Juan property to be tobacco free. Adult Ed students, faculty, and visitors must leave the property to use tobacco. We are required to enforce district policy and anyone who refuses to comply will be dis-enrolled.
